Retinoids are widely used to smooth skin texture and to correct wrinkles during photoaging. Fifty-nine patients of different age groups, from 32 to 59 years old, who were treated with chemical peeling with retinoic acid (RA), were examined for skin functional parameters after its peeling. RA peeling produces a mild whitening effect in all age groups. After peeling, the skin erythema is increased by 10%; the skin around the eyes may be more sensitive, its sensitivity does not depend on the age of a patient. The water content in the epidermal stratum corneum increases in persons of all ages after RA peeling. The detected changes may suggest the intensity of skin metabolic processes throughout the follow-up period; therefore, a study of the long-term results of peeling is necessary for evaluation of its efficiency.
