Chronic lower back pain syndromes and different metabolic disorders are among the most common
pathological conditions, especially in the elderly. The paper provides a review of literature on the problem
of chronic back pain concurrent with different metabolic disorders (obesity, diabetes mellitus,
atherosclerosis), their mutual influence, and possible aggravation. Clarifying the pathogenetic mechanisms
of these pathological conditions and analyzing the available data on the impact of comorbidities on chronic
pain syndrome will help improve diagnosis and therapy quality.
