The capabilities of intraperitoneal chemotherapy have recently attracted increasing attention. The use of subcutaneous port systems for intraperitoneal administration of chemicals is effective both in combination therapy for gastric malignancies and as a palliative treatment method for patients with unresectable gastric cancer. The authors describe their own experience with fully implantable subcutaneous peritoneal Port-A-Cath systems for combined chemotherapy of disseminated gastric cancer. The installation and operating maintenance of the system are detailed; possible complications during its operation and methods for their prevention are given; and long-term treatment results are assessed.
