According to the WHO, osteoporosis (OP) ranks fourth among the factors that influence longevity and quality of life in people. The paper gives the risk factors, etiology, classification, and clinical picture of OP. Particular attention is paid to its diagnostic methods. Indications for OP treatment and criteria for its efficiency are also presented. Drug (vitamin D and calcium supple-ments, prolia, and calcitonin) and non-drug treatments are described in detail. The major surgical treatments, such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, are considered.
