Pulmonary tuberculosis and malignant neoplasms

The clinical, radiological, and laboratory manifestations of pulmonary tuberculosis were retrospectively analyzed in 38 deceased patients with malignant neoplasms (MN) (a TB/MN group). A comparison group included 134 deceased patients with pulmonary tuberculosis without MN. Progressive tuberculosis concurrent with MN was established to be more common in men over the age of 50 years. Pulmonary malignant neoplasms concurrent with tuberculosis more often developed in the areas of fibrosis with previously treated cirrhotic and fibro-cavernous forms.
