MIRIZZI SYNDROME-I: A CLINICAL CASE

Mirizzi syndrome (MS) is a rare, severe complication of cholelithiasis, the original morphological sign of which is the compression of the proximal part of the hepaticocholedochus, which culminates in the formation of either a stricture or a cholecystobiliary fistula. For the preliminary diagnosis of MS, it is necessary to remember its basic and additional criteria (clinical, instrumental, including ultrasonographic and laboratory). The preoperative diagnosis of MS is a very difficult task for surgeons and ultrasonic diagnosticians; its solution makes it possible to choose adequate diagnostic and treatment tactics and to avoid complications during surgery for complicated calculous cholecystitis.
