The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is nearing completion. Today, only 3 countries (Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria) remain polio-endemic. But at the final stage of polio eradication, there are problems associated with an oral live poliovirus vaccine, which requires new approaches to vaccination against polio.
