Patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) have been found to have endothelial dysfunction that is characterized by increases in the level of serum vascular endothelial factor (VEF) and in that of plasma desquamated endotheliocytes (DEC). The levels of VEF and DEC may act as criteria for the severity of CD and as signs of its poor course.
